The painting was made by an unknown self-taught Lithuanian artist with some education in painting who worked in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The piece is primitivistic in its execution, dark of colour; the facial expression is realistic, the modelling of the pleats soft. This work of art, as likely as not, was made for a provincial monastic setting, a church. The picture offers a meaningful representation of the qualities of the plastic language of the period.
